"Stable" Housing in the Christmas Season
As we approach the season of Advent, “stable housing” might seem like a lead-in
to the Christmas Story. Instead at Good Neighbors it is a desire we face with our neighbors every day.
They come seeking exactly
that....stability. Far too many families find themselves living in the dark and cold or considering living in their cars. They have
no idea which way to turn or if anyone can help. Many have never faced this issue before and are caught totally unprepared to navigate
the network of social service agencies. Enter Good Neighbors.
Armed with information and experience networking with local agencies,
Good Neighbors helps through problem solving and support. Meeting with our neighbors one on one, the volunteer listens and helps develop
a plan, encouraging options that may offer a lasting difference. Often a neighbor is able to work through the problem with information
and encouragement.
Can you imagine facing a cold night with no home, no light, no water and no hope? The season poses thequestion
to us all: Will we be the innkeeper who says “no room” -- or the one who welcomes the stranger and assures warmth and light?
Peace, Lisa
