Good Neighbors works collaboratively with several local agencies:
Blount County Community Action Agency (Utility Assistance and referrals)
United Way of Blount County (Referrals and Helpline)
Adult Education Foundation of Blount County (GED assistance)
Blount County Habitat for Humanity (Budget Basics)
Many Local churches and Utility companies
In 2010, all GED students will be required to pay $55.00 to take the
GED exam. Working in collaboration with the Adult Education Foundation and Director Carol Ergenbright, Good Neighbors
will assist students prepared to take the GED exam. Students who are enrolled in the Adult Education program, score well on
the pre-test (minimum of 450 on each of the 5 sections) and have completed at least 12 hours of classroom instruction may come to
GN for assistance with the testing fee. These students will meet with a coach, provide evidence of financial need and
a copy of the Official Practice Test provided by Adult Education . After meeting this criteria, students may receive assistance
with the cost of the GED exam. It is a proven statistic that on average those who have their GED annually make $12,000
more than those without. A great way to help our neighbors reach self-sufficiency!
Our
neighbors are referred to the Habitat Budget Basics Program when an interest is shown in learning to manage their own personal finances
in a more responsible and informed manner. 10 sessions are included in the class - 5 individual sessions and 5 groups sessions.
Good Neighbors will work with neighbors in the matching savings program. Neighbors will be interviewed and deatils explained
during an interview with a GN counselor.
